About
Shamika Tissera is a machine learning researcher at Tsinghua University's Global Innovation Exchange (GIX), based in Beijing. He works on multimodal vision-language models, with a focus on geometry-aware 3D visual grounding and open-vocabulary scene understanding.
Before moving into research, he was a Senior Software Engineer at IFS, and previously worked at companies including WSO2 and Spil Labs.
Research
His current work explores how large vision-language models can reason about the 3D world from ordinary images: grounding language in geometry, detecting objects in 3D, and understanding scenes beyond a fixed vocabulary. More broadly, he is interested in interpretable, trustworthy, and physics-guided machine learning.
Experience
- Researcher, Global Innovation Exchange (GIX), Tsinghua University (present)
